A local farmer on the boundary of Oliver's Battery and Hursley has been granted planning permission for a battery storage scheme. More

WinACC supported the bid, writing to the planners saying:

"Winchester Action on Climate Change is firmly in support of local battery storage facilities.

"To meet international and national targets, the UK must increase the proportion of its energy that comes from renewable sources dramatically over the next few years. For Winchester District to do its fair share, this means increasing the renewable share from under 2% to 15% by 2020. Battery storage is urgently needed to balance the grid, given that some renewable energy sources are intermittent. There used to be some 15% spare capacity but this is now reduced to around 1% as a result of the welcome closure of coal and gas fired power stations."
