Take action with WinACC

We are a community of people from across Winchester district who care about the effect the climate crisis is having both locally and around the world. To make a meaningful difference to the climate crisis we take action to reduce carbon emissions – those harmful greenhouse gases that are polluting our world and are the main cause of the climate crisis.

Packed full of ways to take action, campaigns to support, projects to participate in and events to attend. Subscribing to our e-newsletter is the easiest way to keep up to date with Winchester Action on the Climate Crisis.

Make a difference.

The most important thing you can do today is be part of the community that takes action on the climate crisis. By signing up for our regular newsletter you will receive a regular email with action you can take immediately, events to attend and news from us on what we’re planning.

We focus most of our work on pressing for ‘systemic change’ as the scale of the climate crisis challenge means that the individual changes we can make right now won’t be enough on their own. For instance, it is hard to leave the car at home without a safe cycle route or alternative public transport. We need to do both: join together to call for systemic change as well as individually treading more lightly on the planet.

We’ve come up with six key areas where we can all make a difference. Click on the topic areas below to find out how you can take action.

Cars, trains, fuels, cycling, walking, sustainable travel and flying.

Housing, home energy, solar farms, transport links, local plan, superhomes and retrofit.

Reducing fossil fuels, increasing solar farms, hydrogen, nuclear, wind farms and renewable energy.

Nature based solutions, land use, agriculture, rewilding and biodiversity.

Pensions, investments and spending wisely.

Food, growing, water, plastic and waste.

Winchester District and Climate Change

Why Winchester District?

We know from our reports that people in our District have much bigger carbon footprints than others living in the UK. We see local effects of climate change including flooding and heatwaves that aren’t going to go away. We see the effects on nature, flowers blooming out of season, animals awake long after they should be hibernating.

We believe that local action really can make a difference
